Swami Vivekanand Youth Movement

Swami Vivekananda youth Movement (SVYM), is a non religious, non profit, non political organization. Its head office is in Mysore district, Karnataka. Founder of this organization is Dr. Balasubranyam. It is started on 1984 with the help of medical college students. Presently they started “Yes” Project.
Sustainable youth action for education and sanitation (yes) project. The branch of SVYM is in Channabasaweshwar nagar, Dharwad. For the development of Dharwad people, they started many programs. Among them vitamin c program is running to all over Karnataka.
HIV/AIDS awareness program and rain water harvesting program, “Shikshanawahini” education project.
The project duration is 5 years and there are three phases.
First phase for two years, second phase is for two and half years and third phase is for six months.
Objectives:
To build a new civil society in India, through its grass root to policy level action in health, education and community development sector.
Every child should go to school, toilet building program in village as well as urban area, water sanitation program and local area (Dharwad) sustainable development quality education program.
Target groups: Target group of the training program is into two groups.
1. Age of 18-30 years for youth and
2. 6-16 years for children.
Youth activities:
Sanitation activity: In this activity they are showing audio video presentation and street play for both education and sanitation. They are arranging sanitation mela. In this mela they give awareness and importance of sanitation. Toilet construction facility started in villages. They arranged health campus.
While giving training to youth they saw that there were blocks to creativity in youth like, fear of making mistakes, fear of criticism, low self confidence, lack of priority, in appropriate comparisons, not enough time to relax, in adequate sleep and poverty thinking.
SVYM has been working since 25 years for the development of the society. They solved major problems of the youth and created employment for youth. It is acting as a key promoter, facilitator in the community’s efforts towards self reliance and empowerment especially in youths.
Vidya kiran program supports needy students in Mysore district. Students who are intelligent and academically bright but they do not have money to continue their education. To continue their education they are helping. This program is being supported by Asha for education Silicon Valley chapter. If we see the graph of this organization, their graph is increasing day by day.
For any NGO, it is very difficult to run and sustain because raising fund is a big task to survive them. When people have trust on you then, it is easy to raise the funds. But there are many people who believed SVYM and gave money for welfare of the society. People have trust on SVYM and the SVYM also doing well for society.
